Are You Aware?

October is World Vegetarian Awareness Month. Who knew? I actually didn’t. [Fun Fact: October begins with World Vegetarian Day, and the month concludes with World Vegan Day on the 1st of November]. Here are some interesting reads about the celebrations and the cause generally:

  • Find basic information on Vegetarian Awareness Month, from the North American Vegetarian Society, here.
  • Read about a newly filed class action lawsuit against the dairy industry for the deaths of baby cows and price fixing. The article also mentions another settlement for egg price fixing that slipped under my radar. At Civil Eats Blog.
  • Check out how other countries, including my old home, celebrate V.A.M.: including an International Day of Action Against McDonald’s. Interesting. Don’t forget the celebrations in Bermuda, too.
  • Take a look at this interview with the owner of NYC’s vegetarian staple, Angelica Kitchen, in honor of V.A.M.
  • And finally, here are some of the benefits of a plant-based diet for your consideration this month!
