In Preparation for 10/31

You will soon learn that Halloween is my favorite holiday. I adore costumes, and Reese’s PB Cup Pumpkins (agh) and fall food. And, horror films, as a class of movies, are my favorite movies in the world! And candy corn. And pumpkin, and all things pumpkin related. Do not like parades, though. Count me out.

So that is why I am SO excited that Shaun and I just signed up for this:

Photo source. On the Sunday before Halloween (10/30), we will be running a 5K from the Downtown Mall to Woolen Mills and back…being chased by people dressed up as zombies. You had a choice between being a zombie runner and a human runner – I opted for human [didn’t want to pay for two costumes], and so did Shaun [“I hate makeup.”]. If you make it to the end of the race without being tagged by a zombie runner, you get a prize.

The 5K started last year as an outgrowth of a movie created by local film producers, “Danger. Zombies. Run.” [“A Philosophical Zombie Comedy”] We saw the movie last Halloween when it was screened at the Paramount Theater, but didn’t learn about the run until it was too late. This year… well, let’s just say I’ve been obsessively refreshing the website.

So now, not only do I have three races in October, I also have a jam-packed Halloween weekend:

  • Law School’s Halloween Party
  • Charlottesville’s Dog Halloween Contest
  • Anthony Bourdain at the Paramount Theater
  • Making Home-Made Candy Corn? We’ll see…
This is shaping up to be a great October.
